The RV Adventure continues............

January 26, 2007

Day 4
- Hello New Orleans and Bourbon Street!

A beautiful day today and a short drive into New Orleans. Navigating The French Quarter with this 30" RV wasn't too bad (of course I wasn't driving) but ask Robert about the parking!!!!
After lunch we spent several hours just strolling around - the guys kept getting side-tracked! We lucked into a parade advertising "Hats, the Musical" and became real adept at grabbing beads. ( a few hundred between us)
New Orleans, post Katrina, seems to be doing ok, despite a record number of murders lately! Most businesses are open and preparing for Mardi Gras next month.

From N.O., we drove on to Houma and through the bayou country. Had hoped to get there before dark but we can't seem to make that happen.

I may be slow at this but stay tuned and hopefully you will hear about the entire trip before the Christmas letter!

The Great RV Adventure!

January 23,24,25, 2007

Our long awaited adventure is about to start. Bobby and Dell brought us a lovely Bon Voyage basket and saw us off.

Day 1 only took as far as Apalachicola due to a late start. We all took turns with the driving and getting comfortable and organized. Parked overnight at Tina and Phil's home and enjoyed a few amenities - esp a hot shower in the morn!

Day 2 and a leisurely start. Happy Birthday, Debbie! Seems as though it took forever to get through FL. All the little towns along the panhandle - slow going.
We blinked and were through AL and into MS , and the Hollywood Casino RV Park, our destination for the next 2 nights. Arrived after dark again which will become our trend. Very nice facilities here, hot showers, shuttle to the casino etc... After a champagne toast to Debbie we went over to the casino for a very nice dinner at Tuscany Steak and Seafood. Wandered around after dinner but left Robert at the 21 table , hopefully paying for the trip!

Day3 we backtracked to Biloxi and the Gulfport area. Robert's goal was to collect a chip or 2 from each casino. We were in and out of all 10 , the best by far being The Beau Rivage . Enjoyed lunch there and experienced our first muffelatta. ( a New Orleans signature sandwich made with meats, cheeses and an olive salad.)
Driving around all day gave us a glimpse of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, 18 months ago. Truly a touching and sad sight. Concrete slabs with front steps, clothing still hanging in trees, shells of buildings...... We took quite a few pictures but you really can't get the feeling from a photo.
The evening was spent leisurely back at the RV, roughing it with cable TV, wireless hi-speed internet.....
The weather so far has been dreary and cold. Don't think it's even hit 50 yet but we are comfortable and warm inside.
