Our long awaited adventure is about to start. Bobby and Dell brought us a lovely Bon Voyage basket and saw us off.
Day 1 only took as far as Apalachicola due to a late start. We all took turns with the driving and getting comfortable and organized. Parked overnight at Tina and Phil's home and enjoyed a few amenities - esp a hot shower in the morn!
Day 2 and a leisurely start. Happy Birthday, Debbie! Seems as though it took forever to get through FL. All the little towns along the panhandle - slow going.
We blinked and were through AL and into MS , and the Hollywood Casino RV Park, our destination for the next 2 nights. Arrived after dark again which will become our trend. Very nice facilities here, hot showers, shuttle to the casino etc... After a champagne toast to Debbie we went over to the casino for a very nice dinner at Tuscany Steak and Seafood. Wandered around after dinner but left Robert at the 21 table , hopefully paying for the trip!
Day3 we backtracked to Biloxi and the Gulfport area. Robert's goal was to collect a chip or 2 from each casino. We were in and out of all 10 , the best by far being The Beau Rivage . Enjoyed lunch there and experienced our first muffelatta. ( a New Orleans signature sandwich made with meats, cheeses and an olive salad.)
Driving around all day gave us a glimpse of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, 18 months ago. Truly a touching and sad sight. Concrete slabs with front steps, clothing still hanging in trees, shells of buildings...... We took quite a few pictures but you really can't get the feeling from a photo.
The evening was spent leisurely back at the RV, roughing it with cable TV, wireless hi-speed internet.....
The weather so far has been dreary and cold. Don't think it's even hit 50 yet but we are comfortable and warm inside.
